Thanks to your mesage I see that I'm not alone. Well, I've tried the sugestions of ColleenM and maybe the problem is with some browser, as it says: "There is probably a temporary condition occurring in your browser that is preventing the images from loading".
It began a couple of days ago..., and, while I can continue "working" with flickr, it's quite annoying!

I don't think its Browser related as the same thing happens in another browser, Firefox. I generally use Explorer. I clicked for instance my contact list and half the images were broken, they did not load. I think its a server problem within Flickr itself, as everything else suggested I checked.

If there were a server problem with Flickr, it would be affecting more than just the two of you. Did you try all of the suggestions in that FAQ? Commonly, this sort of thing relates to network issues.

Hi zyrcster. Yes, I tried all the suggestion in the F&Q. Nothing is being blocked and Windows Firewall is not the problem as I have not seen this happen until now. I am a member of Virtualtourist.com and the same thing happens there every now and then. And when it does, its 100% almost for certain the administrator and/or server.
Unknown how many people have this problem. Not everyone looks here in the forum and remember, we're talking about uncountable numbers of members.

I assure you, when something goes wrong with the Flickr servers, you will see hundreds of posts per hour about the problem.
Perhaps there's a problem with your router cache. Sometimes rebooting routers helps.

i have this problem too, asked and was also referred to the FAQ.
i can't do anything with the router or the firewall at work so i just let it go. I haven't been checking it at home so i am not sure if it's a problem there.
it's odd, some photos in a group/user/whatever will load and some won't. I couldn't eve see my own avatar, i tried to make a new one and still couldn't, so i just got rid of it.
I am working with the new firefox in mac 10.5.2
it's annoying.

I reported a similar problem yesterday on another thread, where more users where complaining about the situation. Thumbnails, icons and miniatures are loading erratically: sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
I've experienced the problem from different computers and networks. Hence, it's fair to suspect the problem is on the Flickr end of things.

Are all of you using the same ISP?
Over the Memorial Day weekend thousands of Flickr users (out of the millions world wide) were having problems because their ISP had made some coding changes.

Hi, Colleen, I'm in Brazil so it's unlikely there will be many others using the same ISP. I had never had similar problems with Flickr before, and I'm a heavy user. My problem is ISP-unrelated, I have experienced it from two different locations - via different ISPs. Hope the same way the problem appeared it will go away.

ISP making coding changes? Hmm right.
Anyway, I am getting Xs on some pics and it was fine yesterday. Same PC, same Browser, same network, same ISP etc etc.
I've been an IT geek for 20 years and currently work as IT Mgr at a software house. This is not a problem at my end or my ISP... I _know_ these things!

Likewise. A variety of avatars and pictures (with no apparent rhyme or reason) are missing, despite a cache clearance, and re-connecting to my ISP (which is definitely not in Brazil...)

Same problem here, in Firefox, IE and Safari, I'm in Switzerland. Hitting relaod several times usually cures it, but it's very annoying. For me it started today.

I'm in the UK and getting similar problems. Whenever i do, i reload the page and find some of the previously unloaded images appear, whilst ones that were fine before vanish. It's happening to all images from buddy icons to full size.

By the looks of it, it seems quite clear the problem is affecting more than just the two users who started the thread... A cross-platform, cross-ISP, cross-continent issue!!! Would be nice to hear from someone who can explain what the exact problem is and, more importantly, when it will be fixed.

I have the same problem over here. Actually this is going on for several days on and off now.
According to the Flickr Test Page , Farm1 Global and East are red for me.
I'm tired of reporting these occurances every day new since Flickr is obviously not able (or even willing) to keep up a flaw-free system for more than one day. It's highly frustrating!

For me Farm 1 Global is red most of the time, sometimes Farm1 East and sometimes both Farm1 Global and Farm1 East, all others remain green.

I'm getting it too: ISP is BTinternet, using Firefox. No pattern to the missing images that I can see.

Hello again. I should report that like many others, I have tried another computer, different ISP, different network, etc. So the problem has to be on the side of Flickr. lets get the problem fixed. I am slowly becoming a flickrholic, lol.

i've seen this for a few days now, the magic donkey shows farm1 east going red when it happens. If i right click on a red X and choose show picture the missing image then appears. It does seem to be an intermittent problem...

I've got this problem too...red crosses sometimes, but sometimes not (images/icons sometimes appear ok after refreshing the page)...It's on and off, and it doesn't matter which browser, which computer, or which ISP I'm on...and of course, when images don't show up ok, it means Flickr badges don't work either.
I've noticed this happen in the past, but the problem usually seems to disappear of its own accord after a few hours...This seems to be the longest it's taken to sort itself out.

I have been seeing the same red x's on icons for the past couple of days, also. Made sure my flash player was up-to-date, use Internet Explorer and haven't done anything different that should cause this problem. Some of the small photos will show the red x boxes, also. Haven't changed any settings so believe this is a Flickr issue. I don't have the problem anywhere else but here.

Can anyone give a link to a photo that does not load for them ? We're not aware of any issue with the east side of farm1, as far as what we can tell.
If we had some sample images, then that would be super helpful!

I'm only seeing it on buddy icons and image thumbnails, like when viewing my recent activity. It also seems to be random. If I reload, thumbnails that didn't show up on the last load show up on the re-load, and then if I re-load again, they disappear again.

I think that not all the people have this problem. If you see nothing strange, it's useless to give a link. Do you see all the buddy icons in this topic? I see some buddy icons but a red x instead of the others.

I always clean out my cache so that isn't the problem. Have done everything that your FAQ's have mentioned, with no results. Everything is up-to-date. The problem started, yesterday.

jspaw, as people have pointed out here, it's a random thing. When I opened this thread, I couldn't see 1/4 of the buddy icons. I've refreshed the page and now I can see some of the icons I couldn't see before while other icons that were showing ok have now dissappeared.

Update: We are chasing down a lead on this now.
If it is happening to you, what is helpful to us is the URL of an example image that you cant see. Even if it is not happening to everyone. Knowing exactly what you can't see can help us figure out where the problem is.
You can right-click where the image should be and Copy Image Location. The post that URL in your reply here.

I still have that problem now. It may be because I don't have a pro account. It happens in FF, Opera and IE... If posted all the urls that don't work... I would be here for hours... I can't believe that I have been with this problem for like a month and a half and I have finally gone to see the Help Forum... but hard to find info on what is wrong. the only other thread on this was in 05 but got closed due to lack of comments... :(
Oh well.... back to the patience game!

Don't know if anybody else is having the same problem. I'm not getting the notorious red x's any more, but instead downloading any page takes forever before all the icons and photos are shown. By forever I mean forever, minutes before a page is fully downloaded (actually, it never completes the load, it stays on an infinite loop waiting for the photos to show).
The problem affects both thumbnails and normal-sized photographs. An example here: www.flickr.com/groups/630904@N22/
Can't see any of the photos on the 1st row and the first 2 on the second. No matter how many times I reload the page, they won't show.
My problem would seem to be with some or all of the Farm Global servers, or so the Magic Donkey says.

I still have that problem...nothing's changed for me (on FF, the pics don't show and look like they are forever downloading, but never seem to finish downloading), and I do have a pro account.
It's a lot of images that are being affected (including the icons for staff), so like someone just mentioned, it will take forever to post the urls...Furthermore, sometimes these pics appear ok, and sometimes they don't, so it would be difficult to keep track of them all.
On the magic donkey page, i get the red cross on farm 1 global and farm 1 east.

farm1 and farm4 have been behaving very erratically lately. Takes forever for them to load, gets stalled, and most of the icons (avatars, group icons etc.) don't get loaded. This is how my "recent comments" section looks like these days.
This has been on and off for the past 3 days or so, no matter whether I connect from home or from work, with IE or FF. Some of my contacts (no geographical pattern though) have reported the same issues as well. Today it's become really extreme.
Photos do load when I go to the respective page though.
On the upside, the glitter awards and icons don't show either ;-)

I'm getting very slow response from Farm 1 Global and East; everything else is OK, but those two stay red for a long time (about 20-40s, but it varies) then go green within a second or so of each other. In normal use it seems to be affecting mostly buddy icons, and unlike the test green ticks they seem to keep 'loading' forever, or certainly several minutes. Just picking some out from this thread I can't yet see:

farm 1 global and east are red for me. it seems like all photos before a certain date don't load, on my flickr and other people's flickrs. buddy icons also don't load, including my own. i've tried everything on the FAQ page, and in different browsers and there was no change. but then i tried it on a different computer and everything worked. i've been trying this periodically all day. my ISP is in france.

issues: from your contacts, everyone's upload, my own photo stream, my contacts photo streams and their main pages, my profile where all my contact icons some don't show up. I wait and reload and there's just a blank next... tried to w/ no firewall. still problem...

It's all munted here in New Zealand (to use the vernacular). Can't even load the test page in Safari. Firefox shows green ticks for everything except Farm 1 Global and Farm 1 East - those have red crosses.

I had this problem and it came and went. It happened on Firefox and it happened on Explorer. A few random icons or thumbnails would not load. If I reloaded the page, different ones wouldn't load. It seemed to stop by itself.

Looks good to me now too, and has done for the past hour or so of both general browsing around the site, and periodic poking of the Magic Donkey - all green, all fast. Also Kevin - so they are. Duly noted, but spaceballing them still seems a bit weird.

I still have the problem. It might be different to the one described here, i dont know, but i can't upload any pictures at all. It will let me upload the odd one here and there but generally none of my photos load. They all have an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle next to it.
Once again I dont know if its the same problem you guys are talking about but perhaps it is? and how do i solve it?

Farm4 Global misbehaving for me too. I'd like to see the problem fixed for good! It's more than one week with red x's!
petkov, the problem we are dealing with here is not related to uploads but to the failure of several Flickr servers when it comes to show photos, thumbnails and icons.
